Cambridge Cybercrime Centre: Extending a data sharing agreement

Our standard data sharing agreements will allow access to data for a period of one year. This page explains the process for extending the agreement, or entering into a new agreement.

Assess whether extending the agreement is appropriate

The agreements we enter into for sharing our data are legal documents and it is important that they are adhered to. In particular we make data available only for a specific project or projects, the details of which are set out in Schedule 2.

If you wish to use our data for a different project then you MUST enter into a new agreement with us. Please consult our explanation of the process.

If the text in Schedule 2 still covers your work (and we do try and write fairly broad descriptions whenever we can) then send us an email addressed to < datarequest AT cambridgecybercrime.uk > and ask to extend the agreement.

Our process for extending agreements is as lightweight as we are able to make it. We will send you a letter which varies the agreement which is already signed by "Cambridge". You will then need to get your institution to counter-sign it to agree to its terms. Return a scan to us and we will extend the time period of your access accordingly.

REMEMBER that you are obliged by the agreement to tell us if you add further researchers to your project if they are going to have access to the raw data (and we will issue them their own credentials for that).

REMEMBER that when you get to the stage of publishing your work then you will need to send us a copy of your paper at the point at which it is submitted for peer review. That allows us to check at the earliest sensible stage that you have not inadvertently breached any of the terms on which you have received our data. If you publish your results on a blog (or similarly) then you should send us a relevant URL immediately the article goes live.

REMEMBER that our agreements require you to publish work "open access" and we do check on this.
